McAfee Celebrates “Independence Day” – Liberates PCs Worldwide From Functioning And Refuses To Answer Phones
Antivirus extraordinaire McAfee has done it again. Not content with their latest blunder, McAfee has screwed up yet once more. Owners of McAfee antivirus are advised to just freaking uninstall the bloody thing and move to something that actually works. Or at least disable it until McAfee’s own updates stop destroying your PCs.
Yes, that’s right. A July 3rd update to McAfee antivirus seems to be labeling just about everything that it can get its grubby little antivirus hands on as the PWS!hv.aq trojan. These virus hits are, of course, false positives. But they’re hitting everything from Windows system files to drivers for Compaq computers, and even McAfee’s own McScript.exe. And handling these false positives as viruses typically causes systems to become unusable with many a Blue Screen of Death. Oops! Way to go McAfee!
The leading theory so far is that out-of-date versions of the antivirus software itself, when updated with the DAT 5664 virus definition, just seem to go berserk with wrong accusations of malware, turning the antivirus software itself into an infection far more dangerous than most computer viruses.
And because it happened on the 3rd of July, the day before America’s most important federal holiday, McAfee offices in the states are, well, unmanned and just not up to handling the sudden flurry of problems cropping up world-wide.
Again, oops!
Honestly folks. McAfee? Really? Do you not read up on antivirus news? Switch to something else already. Really. There are plenty of other antiviral fish in the sea, and not only do they pretty much all test their updates better before releasing them, but they also pretty much all tend to use less system resources too. McAfee is so 90s. Get with the new millennium!
